WiiM Pro Plus Explained: Inputs, Outputs, Streaming, DSP, and Who It Is For

The WiiM Pro Plus is a compact network streamer, DAC, digital preamplifier, and input bridge for existing stereo systems. It does not power passive speakers, and it is not a universal home-theatre decoder. Its value comes from broad streaming support, flexible digital and analogue connections, app control, and useful DSP.

What it replaces—or does not

Connected by RCA, the Pro Plus can feed an integrated amplifier, power amplifier with suitable volume control, receiver, or active speakers. Connected by optical or coaxial output, it works as a streaming transport for an external DAC. It cannot drive passive speakers directly and has no headphone output, HDMI ARC, phono stage, or USB audio output.

Streaming and network playback

WiiM lists Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, TIDAL Connect, DLNA, Alexa Cast, and Roon Ready support, alongside services available inside the WiiM Home app. Network and service availability can vary by region and firmware. The platform also supports local network libraries and multi-room playback across compatible ecosystems.

Inputs

• Analogue line input: useful for a CD player, turntable with its own phono preamp, TV analogue output, or another source. The Pro Plus converts this signal to digital for processing and routing.
• Optical input: accepts stereo PCM up to the documented limit. Dolby Digital and DTS are not supported on this S/PDIF input.

The Pro Plus uses a TI PCM1861 ADC for its improved analogue input path. WiiM documents a 2 Vrms input and conversion up to 192 kHz/24-bit for this model.

Outputs and DAC

Outputs include RCA line out, optical S/PDIF, and coaxial S/PDIF. The internal analogue path uses an AKM AK4493SEQ DAC and TI operational amplifier. WiiM documents 120 dB A-weighted SNR and -110 dB THD+N for line output under stated conditions. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements by SoundPath Lab.

Digital outputs support up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Output capability still depends on the source, app, DSP settings, receiving DAC, and selected mode.

DSP and room integration

The WiiM platform includes graphic and parametric EQ, bass and treble adjustment, presets, channel balance, and other device-dependent processing. Room-correction features and options can evolve through firmware. DSP may change sample rate or bit-perfect status, but it can be more valuable than preserving an untouched signal in a difficult room.

Multi-room use

The Pro Plus can participate in WiiM/Linkplay grouping and compatible AirPlay 2, Google, or Alexa ecosystems. These grouping methods are not interchangeable. Analogue and optical inputs may be redistributed within the WiiM system, but external inputs should not be assumed to transmit to arbitrary AirPlay or Google Cast speakers.

Who should buy it

• Owners of an existing amplifier or active speakers who want broad streaming support.
• Listeners who want a capable internal DAC but may also use an external DAC.
• Systems needing analogue or optical input routing and app-based EQ.
• Multi-room users already invested in WiiM or Linkplay-compatible devices.

Who should look elsewhere

• TV users who require HDMI ARC and one-remote operation.
• Headphone listeners needing an integrated headphone amplifier.
• Turntable users without a phono preamplifier.
• Users who need USB audio output to a DAC.

Bottom line

The Pro Plus is strongest as a flexible, screen-free hub for an existing stereo. Its advantage over cheaper transports is not one headline format but the combination of streaming protocols, analogue and digital inputs, capable line output, DSP, and mature system control. Buy it for integration; choose a different model when HDMI, USB output, a display, phono input, or headphones are central.
