Start with the complete signal path, not a single product. These reference chains show the roles, connections and checks required for common audio systems. Specific products are added only when the evidence supports the complete path.

Evidence rule: “Reference Chain” means the connection pattern has been compatibility-checked from documented requirements. “Tested Chain” is used only when the complete system has actually been used together and the test conditions are recorded. We do not label an untested bundle as tested.

Computer or phone → USB DAC / headphone amp or powered speakers → optional powered subwoofer

Check USB compatibility, volume control, output type, listening distance and whether the speakers accept a subwoofer connection.

TV HDMI ARC / optical → compatible amplifier or powered speakers → left/right speakers → optional subwoofer

Check HDMI ARC behavior, CEC volume control, lip-sync, optical fallback and whether the product supports the required TV format.

Phone, computer or streamer → DAC / headphone amplifier → headphones or IEMs

Check connector type, required voltage and current, gain range, output impedance, noise with sensitive IEMs and portable power use.

For synchronized rooms using AirPlay 2, Google Cast, BluOS, Sonos or another ecosystem.

Music service / controller → compatible network endpoints → local amplifiers or powered speakers in each room

Check that every room supports the same grouping method. Bluetooth alone is not a general multi-room protocol, and ecosystem-only subwoofers or speakers require explicit compatibility.
