Matrix Audio TS-1 and NT-1 Problems: What Buyers Should Know
Matrix Audio’s TS-1 and NT-1 are ambitious new streamers, but owner reports highlight wake-up delays, missing track openings, NAS access failures and network playback instability.
Matrix Audio’s latest generation of large-screen streamers is ambitious. The TS-1 combines a streamer, DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier, while the NT-1 is a premium digital transport for users who already own a DAC. Both run the company’s MA Player system and support services such as Roon, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and local or NAS playback.

The hardware is attractive, but a network player is only as good as its software. After checking Matrix Audio’s own community and firmware records, we found several issues that prospective buyers should understand before paying for either model.
This is not evidence that every TS-1 or NT-1 is defective. The reports come from individual systems and do not reveal a failure rate. However, the problems affect basic daily functions—waking, starting a track, finding a NAS and maintaining a network stream—so they deserve more attention than ordinary feature requests.
Matrix Audio TS-1: missing the beginning of a track
One TS-1 owner reported that when playback begins from Roon or Qobuz after the unit is cold or has been idle, the first seconds of the track are missing. Once the unit has been running, the behaviour may be less noticeable.
This matters more than it sounds. A streamer should not need to remain fully awake just to reproduce the opening of a song. Leaving the TS-1 on is also not an ideal workaround when its trigger output keeps a connected power amplifier running.
The most likely explanation is a wake-up or output-initialisation delay: the player starts sending audio before the DAC, analogue stage or connected amplifier is completely ready. That is an inference from the symptom, not a confirmed component diagnosis.
Before buying, users who rely on automatic wake and 12V trigger control should specifically test:
- Start playback after the TS-1 has been in standby.
- Repeat the test with Roon, Qobuz Connect and MA Remote.
- Try tracks that begin immediately rather than with silence.
- Confirm whether a connected amplifier also wakes in time.
- Record the firmware version and the length of audio that is lost.
TS-1: NAS access failed after a software update
Another owner reported that a TS-1 could no longer connect to a NAS after installing firmware v1.0.4 Build066, even though the same NAS had worked before the update.
A single report cannot prove a general firmware defect. NAS problems can also be caused by SMB permissions, saved credentials, IP-address changes or compatibility differences between NAS brands. Even so, the timing—normal operation before the update and failure immediately afterwards—makes the update a reasonable suspect.
Matrix Audio’s own update history shows that storage and library compatibility has required continuing work. An October 2025 update fixed library indexing that could become stuck on certain WAV files, improved compatibility with UGREEN NAS devices and corrected false “SSD not formatted” messages. That does not confirm the later TS-1 complaint, but it shows that local-library behaviour is still being refined.
If your music library is on a NAS, do not treat this as a minor extra. Test your exact NAS and SMB configuration while the return window is still open. After any firmware update, verify access before deleting old settings or reorganising the library.
Matrix Audio NT-1: streaming stability reports

The NT-1 is designed as a high-end digital transport, so reliable network playback is its central job. We found separate owner reports involving:
- TIDAL playback stuttering or buffering when controlled through MA Remote on an iPad.
- Roon failing to detect the NT-1 as an endpoint, or the unit hanging during playback.
- Confusion over the displayed bit depth, with 24-bit FLAC or M4A files shown as 32-bit.
- Buffering behaviour that appeared dependent on network or component compatibility.
These reports do not all point to one fault. The TIDAL case may involve the service, app, Wi-Fi or network conditions. A Roon discovery failure can involve multicast traffic, router settings or the Roon server. A 32-bit display may reflect internal processing or output formatting rather than a loss of audio quality.
The common point is that NT-1 owners may need more troubleshooting than the product’s premium positioning suggests. A digital transport at this level should make Roon, native streaming and local playback feel routine, not experimental.
Why firmware version matters
Matrix Audio has continued adding features and fixes to this platform. The October 2025 release added HQPlayer NAA support and several library, NAS and interface fixes. A December 2025 update added Spotify Lossless. This active development is positive, but it also means that an early review may not describe the behaviour of a current unit—and a new update may solve one problem while introducing another.
Do not rely on the model name alone when comparing reports. Always record:
- Device model
- Firmware version and build number
- MA Remote app version
- Wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi
- Music source and control app
- NAS brand and SMB version
- Connected DAC and output used
- Whether the problem appeared before or after an update
Without these details, different problems can easily be mixed together.
What owners should try
For playback dropouts, missing track openings or endpoint discovery failures:
- Install the latest stable firmware offered by the device or MA Remote.
- Restart the streamer, router and Roon server or NAS.
- Test with wired Ethernet before blaming the audio hardware.
- Compare native MA Remote playback with Roon, TIDAL Connect or Qobuz Connect.
- Remove and add the NAS share again only after saving the current settings.
- Temporarily disable trigger control to separate streamer wake-up delay from amplifier wake-up delay.
- Capture a short video and note the exact time, track and firmware version.
- Report a reproducible sequence to Matrix Audio support rather than only saying that playback is unstable.
Avoid factory-resetting the unit before documenting the problem. A reset can erase evidence and make an intermittent bug harder to reproduce.
Should you avoid the TS-1 or NT-1?
Not necessarily. The TS-1 offers an unusually complete combination of streaming, DAC, headphone and preamp functions. The NT-1 has extensive digital outputs, internal SSD support and a serious linear power supply. Owners and reviewers also report good sound quality and successful Roon or HQPlayer use.
But buyers should separate hardware quality from software maturity. The reports we found are concentrated around wake-up behaviour, NAS access, app-controlled streaming and network endpoint stability. These are exactly the areas that should be tested during the return period.
Our current conclusion is simple:
- TS-1 buyers should test standby wake-up, the first seconds of playback, trigger behaviour and NAS access.
- NT-1 buyers should test Roon discovery, long streaming sessions, TIDAL playback and compatibility with the intended DAC.
- Existing owners should document firmware and network conditions before seeking service.
- Matrix Audio should publish clearer known-issue notes and resolved-status information for each firmware release.
We are collecting more cases
If you own a Matrix Audio TS-1 or NT-1 and have experienced one of these problems, please contact editorial@soundpathlab.com. Include the model, serial-number label or purchase region, firmware build, app version, network connection, music service and a video or screenshot where possible.
We will update this report when a problem is reproduced across multiple units, confirmed by Matrix Audio or clearly resolved in a later firmware release.

Evidence & verification
Evidence basis: Official Matrix Audio product pages and firmware notes, plus clearly identified individual owner reports. This is public-source analysis, not a SoundPath Lab hands-on test.
Firmware and versions reviewed: The TS-1 NAS report referenced firmware v1.0.4 Build066. Matrix platform updates through December 2025 were also reviewed. Current shipping firmware and every affected app version were not independently verified.
Last checked: August 7, 2026.
Limitations: Individual reports do not establish a defect rate. NAS, Roon, TIDAL and wake-up behavior can also depend on the router, server, DAC, trigger chain and local configuration.
Commercial disclosure: No paid placement or retailer relationship influenced this issue record. Evidence and corrections are assessed under the SoundPath Lab editorial policy.
