Audio Industry Briefing: Sennheiser-AMG, Shokz Air 2, Phonak EON and TME Connect — August 25–26, 2026

Rockford Fosgate has announced a co-engineered audio range for the redesigned 2027 Can-Am Defender. The systems use model-specific enclosures, harnesses and mounting hardware rather than generic aftermarket fitment. Depending on configuration, control is integrated with either the vehicle's Wireless Touch Display or Rockford Fosgate's PMX-C30 source unit.

The range scales from a 500-watt amplified front-speaker system to 1,000-watt dual-amplified systems with a powered 10-inch subwoofer. Audio Roof configurations are offered for two- and four-door vehicles; premium variants add 15-inch passive subwoofers, wider speaker coverage, RGB and dome lighting, and integration with Can-Am SMART front and rear lighting. Selected systems also use built-in DSP, vehicle-specific tuning and digital A2B connectivity.

Rockford Fosgate says the components are designed and tested for water, mud, dust, UV exposure and vibration. Those durability and output statements are manufacturer claims and have not been independently tested by SoundPath Lab.

Why it matters: Defender owners get a staged upgrade path that preserves factory-style installation and vehicle controls. Buyers should wait for exact fitment, package contents and prices for their specific Defender trim before ordering; the announcement does not establish that every feature is included in every system.

Shokz launches OpenRun Air 2 and OpenFit Air 2

Shokz has introduced two open-ear models at the same U.S. list price of $129.95. The August 24 announcement gave August 27 as the planned availability date through Shokz and selected retailers; this is not a live stock check.

The OpenRun Air 2 is a bone-conduction neckband headphone weighing 26.4 g. Shokz says it is more than 9% smaller than the original OpenRun and offers up to 10 hours of listening, IP67 dust and water resistance, USB-C charging, a five-minute quick charge for up to two hours of playback, physical controls and Standard or Mini sizing. Its PremiumPitch 3.0 system uses an all-metal dual-coil, dual-reed bone-conduction driver.

The OpenFit Air 2 is a true-wireless ear-hook model weighing 7.2 g per earbud. It uses a dual-driver Bassphere system with OpenBass 2.0 processing and provides a claimed eight hours per charge or 36 hours with the case. Other confirmed features include IP55 protection for the earbuds, Bluetooth 6.1, multipoint pairing, Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and a 10-minute quick charge for up to three hours of playback.

Why it matters: The two products target different buyers at the same price. OpenRun Air 2 prioritizes a secure neckband, higher water resistance and outdoor awareness; OpenFit Air 2 offers independent earbuds, a charging case and broader everyday-device pairing. Neither seals the ear canal, so buyers seeking passive isolation or conventional ANC should look elsewhere.

Signia debuts the MaX hearing-aid platform and Pure C&G MaX

Signia has launched Multi-adaptive Xperience (MaX), a hearing-aid platform that coordinates four task-specific deep neural networks for speech detection, the wearer's own voice, environmental analysis and noise processing. The first product on the platform is the rechargeable receiver-in-canal Pure C&G MaX.

Signia says the new chip provides 54 times the processing power of its previous generation, twice the memory and 50% higher energy efficiency. Those figures are manufacturer comparisons with Signia IX, not independent lab results.

Pure C&G MaX includes Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth LE Audio, telecoil support and Auracast-ready hardware through Signia's OneConnect system. A portable charger stores up to four full charges; Signia says a full charge takes four hours and a 30-minute charge can provide up to six hours of use.

Important rollout note: Signia states that full Auracast functionality is not enabled at launch. It is scheduled to arrive through a Signia One app firmware update by March 2027.

Why it matters: Buyers and hearing-care professionals should separate hardware capability from shipping functionality. LE Audio is part of the launch connectivity package, but buyers who need Auracast immediately should wait for the promised firmware and confirm the actual rollout before purchase.

Phonak launches the Audéo EON hearing-aid portfolio

Sonova has introduced the Phonak Audéo EON receiver-in-canal portfolio. EON Sphere uses the new HYPERSONIC processor and Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0; EON R extends the platform without the Sphere feature set, while CROS EON R is intended for unilateral hearing loss.

The platform supports two active Bluetooth connections, Auracast broadcasts through a QR-code workflow in the myPhonak app, and Phonak Roger accessories. Sonova states that EON provides up to 38 hours of battery life. It also says EON Sphere is 25% smaller, 20% lighter and 37% more power-efficient than the previous Sphere generation. These are manufacturer comparisons, not independent SoundPath Lab measurements.

Sonova further claims that WindBlock 2.0 can reduce wind noise by up to 50 dB and improve signal-to-noise ratio by up to 30 dB under its stated test conditions. Buyers should treat those figures as company-supplied evidence and ask their hearing-care professional to verify real-world benefit during fitting.

Why it matters: EON is a broad platform change rather than a single-device refresh. Its combination of universal Bluetooth, Auracast compatibility and Roger support may reduce connectivity trade-offs, but model-level feature and performance-tier differences still need to be checked before purchase.

The company lists four connection modes, LDAC, a claimed 9 ms wireless-latency mode and up to 120 hours of battery life for Studio Max 2. The A70 Gen 2 is listed with 40 mm drivers, LDAC, Bluetooth 6.0, app-adjustable EQ and up to 72 hours of wireless playback.

Why it matters: IFA attendees will be able to try both models before OneOdio has stated their price or general availability. The latency and battery figures remain manufacturer claims and should not be treated as independent test results.

Sennheiser and Mercedes-Benz begin a multi-year audio partnership

Sennheiser and Mercedes-Benz have announced a multi-year collaboration spanning audio, gaming and sim racing. The first commercial product is the HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition, a gaming-oriented bundle based on Sennheiser's closed-back HD 620S. It includes the detachable HD 500 BAM boom-arm microphone and Mercedes-AMG visual treatment.

The companies set a European retail price of €399 and said shipping is targeted for November 2026. Sennheiser describes this as the first product in the partnership, but neither company has yet specified the number, categories or release timing of future products.

Why it matters: This is primarily a branded bundle rather than a newly disclosed acoustic platform. Buyers who only need headphones should compare the price and contents with the standard HD 620S; gamers or sim-racing users may find the included microphone and closed-back isolation more relevant. Future products should be treated as unannounced until either company publishes details.

StreamUnlimited adds TME Connect support to StreamSDK

StreamUnlimited Engineering says its embedded StreamSDK platform now supports TME Connect, allowing audio manufacturers to build speakers, amplifiers, soundbars and streaming devices that work with QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music and Ximalaya through a common implementation.

TME Connect is a Wi-Fi direct-control architecture: users browse and control music in supported TME applications while compatible audio hardware retrieves and plays the stream. StreamUnlimited positions the addition as a way for manufacturers to share more of the same software architecture between international and China-specific products.

Why it matters: This is an OEM platform capability, not a firmware promise for every existing StreamSDK product. Buyers should not assume a current streamer has gained TME Connect until its manufacturer names the exact model and releases compatible firmware. For brands, the integration reduces the need to maintain a separate device-side stack for major Chinese services.

Teufel issues STEREO M 2/L 2 firmware 1.5.1

Teufel firmware 1.5.1 fixes STEREO M 2 wake-up failure on optical input, a previous-track double-press that did not work, TIDAL volume not returning after unmuting from iOS, and discovery failures with some Bluetooth transmitters. It also improves Google Cast reliability after internal software restarts and the power-off or factory-reset process for an unresponsive device.

If an updated speaker remains in update or bootloader mode for more than 15 minutes, Teufel advises disconnecting and reconnecting power or restarting the update from the Teufel Home app. The official note does not describe a rollback method.

Why it matters: This is a fault-specific maintenance release rather than a generic performance update. Owners using optical input, TIDAL on iOS, Google Cast or an external Bluetooth transmitter have the clearest reason to confirm that version 1.5.1 has installed.
