What has stopped working
Yamaha's UK MusicCast page says Amazon Alexa Skills and Google Home Actions for MusicCast were phased out after an August 2025 announcement. Formal discontinuation began in March 2026 and was scheduled to finish by June 2026. Yamaha states that after completion, the Alexa Skills and Google Actions no longer function.
This means a buyer should not rely on the former Yamaha-specific voice integrations when evaluating a used MusicCast component. Voice commands that depended on those services may no longer reach the MusicCast product even if the receiver, amplifier, speaker or soundbar remains connected to the network.
What Yamaha has not said is ending
The official notice does not say that MusicCast multi-room playback, the MusicCast Controller app, local network playback, Bluetooth, AirPlay, physical inputs or ordinary remote control have ended. Those capabilities vary by model and region and must be evaluated separately.
This distinction is important. The record documents a confirmed integration retirement; it does not classify every MusicCast product as unsupported or unusable.
Buying implications
Before buying a used MusicCast product, decide whether Alexa or Google voice control is essential.
