Hegel H200

The 2026 Hegel H200 is a 150-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier that combines analogue amplification, an MM phono stage, headphone output, DAC and network streaming. It is the connected counterpart to the analogue-only A200, not a replacement specification for the discontinued 200-watt H200 sold in an earlier generation.

Short verdict

The H200 is designed for a listener who wants one central component for passive speakers, streaming services, a turntable, digital sources and headphones. Its main advantage is consolidation: amplification, source selection, streaming and conversion are integrated in one chassis.

It is not the automatic choice for listeners who already own a preferred streamer and DAC, need HDMI ARC, require balanced line outputs or want independently verified measurements before buying. The A200 is the more modular Hegel alternative when digital functions are deliberately kept outside the amplifier.

Best for

• A two-channel system that needs amplification, streaming and digital conversion in one component.
• Passive speakers that benefit from a published 150 W per channel rating and stated 2-ohm load stability.
• Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, Google Cast, UPnP or Roon users.
• A mixed system with an MM turntable, external analogue source, digital source and headphones.
• Installations using Control4 or Crestron integration.

Avoid or verify first

• HDMI ARC/eARC is required for direct television connection.
• Balanced XLR line output is required; the documented variable and fixed outputs are RCA.
• A moving-coil cartridge must connect directly; the built-in phono input is MM.
• The purchase depends on independently measured continuous power, noise, DAC performance, headphone power or thermal behavior.
• You are looking at a used H200 listing and have not confirmed the generation.

Confirmed amplifier platform

Hegel rates the current H200 at 2 × 150 W into 8 ohms at 1 kHz and 1% THD. The minimum stated load is 2 ohms. The company specifies a damping factor above 4,000, frequency response from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio above 100 dB, crosstalk below −100 dB and distortion below 0.01% at 50 W into 8 ohms at 1 kHz.

These are manufacturer specifications, not SoundPath Lab measurements. They establish the claimed operating platform but do not prove sound quality, difficult-load behavior or thermal performance in an independent test.

Analogue inputs and outputs

• One balanced XLR input.
• Two unbalanced RCA line inputs.
• One RCA moving-magnet phono input.
• One variable RCA line output.
• One fixed RCA line output.
• One 6.3 mm headphone output.
• One pair of loudspeaker outputs.

The H200 also supports assigning a fixed volume level to an input for integration with an AV receiver or another volume-controlled source. This is a home-theatre-bypass-style workflow through an analogue input; it is not an HDMI input.

Digital inputs, output and streaming

The model-specific H200 product page lists coaxial S/PDIF input up to 24-bit/192 kHz, two optical inputs up to 24-bit/96 kHz, USB-B up to 24-bit/192 kHz, USB-A drive playback for libraries of up to 10,000 songs and network playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz. A coaxial digital output supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz and can be used with Hegel's DAC Loop function.

Supported network services and protocols listed by Hegel include Spotify Connect Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, airable internet radio and podcasts, UPnP and Roon Ready. The company lists MP3, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, AAC, PCM and Ogg among the supported streaming formats.

Official documentation conflict

Hegel's model-specific product page and current-generation H200 user manual agree on two optical inputs and USB-B up to 24-bit/192 kHz. The separate support comparison chart still lists three optical inputs and USB at 24-bit/96 kHz.

SoundPath Lab treats the current manual and its rear-panel diagram as the primary model-specific evidence while keeping the comparison-chart discrepancy visible. Buyers whose system depends on those connections should verify the shipping rear panel and keep the conflicting chart entry in mind.

Control and daily use

The Hegel Control app provides input selection, volume control, playback, internet radio, podcasts, UPnP library browsing and USB-drive browsing. Digital Input Sense can wake the amplifier and select an active digital input. The amplifier can learn volume commands from a television remote, but this should not be confused with HDMI CEC.

Startup volume, maximum volume, automatic standby and display dimming are configurable. Hegel also lists Control4, Crestron Home and Crestron SIMPL support. The current manual states that when the H200 enters standby it checks for and installs updates; critical updates may install immediately even while the unit is in use. This is manufacturer-documented behavior, not a SoundPath Lab reliability test.

Size and installation

Hegel lists dimensions of 43 × 41 × 12 cm and a weight of 13.6 kg. Allow additional rear clearance for speaker cables, analogue and digital connections, network cable and ventilation. Automatic standby does not remove the need for sensible airflow around an integrated Class A/B amplifier.

Do not confuse it with the discontinued H200

Hegel previously sold another amplifier called H200. The discontinued model is rated at 200 W per channel into 8 ohms, weighs substantially more and does not match the 2026 connected feature set. Used listings and older reviews may rank beside current search results.

For the current product, verify the 150 W rating, streaming/DAC functions, MM phono input, USB drive playback and current rear-panel layout. A listing describing 200 W per channel, a 1,000 VA dual-mono supply or the older connection layout refers to the discontinued generation.

What remains unverified

SoundPath Lab has not independently measured this unit. Continuous and burst power, noise at different gain and volume settings, DAC linearity, phono-stage noise and loading, headphone output power, thermal behavior, app stability and performance with difficult loudspeakers remain open test items. Firmware-dependent services and regional availability can also change.

Reviewed — verdict unchanged. The current manual closes the launch-stage gap around the H200's two optical inputs, 24-bit/192 kHz USB ceiling and automatic-update behavior, but it does not supply independent performance or long-term reliability evidence.
