FiiO K15

A desktop DAC/headphone and line-output hub combining digital and analogue inputs with network reception. Its value depends on needing those extra paths, not assuming greater listening quality than a simpler DAC.

Evidence checked / updated: 2026-10-11. Manufacturer claims and editorial system-fit assessment. No SoundPath Lab listening or measurement test.

Verified documentation

  • DAC / network: Dual AK4497S; Ethernet and dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi. Bluetooth reception lists SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL/HD/Adaptive and LDAC; actual codec requires a compatible transmitter.
  • Analogue paths: RCA and 4.4 mm balanced line inputs; RCA/XLR line outputs; 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm and XLR4 headphone outputs. Use PRE for speakers without their own volume control; LO is fixed at full level.
  • Official balanced power: At least 3000 mW/channel at 32 ohms or 700 mW/channel at 300 ohms, THD+N below 1%, ultra-high gain, USB DAC/coaxial/optical modes. No stimulus frequency is given for the power entries. Not SPL measured.
  • Digital ceilings / PEQ: With PEQ off: USB PCM 768 kHz/32-bit and native DSD512; coaxial PCM 192 kHz/24-bit; optical PCM 96 kHz/24-bit. Ten-band PEQ does not process analogue line or balanced inputs.
  • AirPlay / Roon: Manufacturer FAQ specifies AirPlay 1 up to 44.1 kHz, not AirPlay 2. Roon use needs a separate Roon Server/account and the same network; K15 is the playback endpoint, not the Server.

Best for

A headphone desk that needs network reception plus digital and analogue sources, or an active-speaker system requiring variable RCA/XLR output. Useful box consolidation when these paths are actually used.

Avoid if

A simple USB-only setup, an AirPlay 2 requirement, analogue-input EQ correction or direct passive-speaker drive. Roon users must budget separately for its server and service.

Limits and unknowns

Firmware is split across modules. Analogue PEQ is unavailable. Bluetooth and network interoperability, headphone noise and simultaneous-output behavior remain untested. Do not treat high-rate ceilings as available in every input or EQ mode.

Current verdict

Conditional fit when network, analogue-input and variable line-output integration remove a real system gap.

Why it fits

One box can serve several headphone and active-speaker source paths. If a basic USB DAC already meets the need, the added modes create complexity rather than a documented upgrade.

What it can replace

A compatible network endpoint, desktop DAC/headphone amp and line-level switching/volume stage.

What it cannot replace

A speaker power amplifier, phono stage, Roon Server, AirPlay 2 endpoint or analogue-input DSP processor.

What SoundPath Lab tested

Documentation review only. No SoundPath Lab listening, measurements, setup or long-term ownership test has been performed.

What remains untested

Electrical ratings, output noise with particular headphones, network/codec handshakes, PEQ sound, firmware recovery, app behavior and long-term reliability.

System conditions

Use a separate phono stage for a turntable and an amplifier for passive speakers. Match LO/PRE to downstream volume control and begin at low level. Network use requires compatible clients; Roon also needs its separate Server/service. The latest paired SOC/MCU guidance must be followed.

Alternatives by need

K11 for wired digital headphone/RCA use; keep a working DAC/amp with an existing WiiM Pro Plus when separating streaming from amplification already meets the need. Neither path has an asserted listening advantage here.

Keep or upgrade

Upgrade for a needed input, remote/volume function or box reduction. Keep existing equipment if these functions work; published power figures do not prove an audible benefit.

When to reassess

Recheck module versions and unresolved source discrepancies after material firmware changes or actual unit tests. Manufacturer fix notices alone do not close independent issues.

Ownership evidence

No SoundPath Lab long-term ownership evidence is attached. This is a documentation-based reassessment.

Firmware, manual and support

Official 2026-09-16 release specifies SOC V155 and MCU V95; MCU V95 must accompany SOC V155. Manufacturer additions include NAS access and QPlay. Reported fixes remain pending independent verification; do not infer broad streaming-service or app-version support.

Current regional price, stock, warranty duration, repair coverage and guaranteed support horizon are Unknown. Confirm the exact regional offer before buying. A live product page does not establish stock or a support commitment.

Official model manual

Unresolved source conflicts

  • The parameter-page port row says 3.5 mm, while its electrical tables and the dedicated I/O FAQ identify 6.35 mm. This profile uses the dedicated 6.35 mm description and retains the conflicting source. The AirPlay instructions also contain an SR11 name in one step; it is not treated as a K15 identity change.
