Audio-Technica turntables and headphones: choose by system role

Audio-Technica was founded by Hideo Matsushita in 1962. Our current catalog covers selected turntables, open- and closed-back headphones and wired gaming headsets. The useful differences are operation mode, acoustic design, electrical load and the connections the complete system needs.

Product lines and differences

Separate convenience, monitoring and gaming roles

  • AT-LP70XBT: fully automatic belt drive with Bluetooth and a built-in switchable phono preamplifier.
  • AT-LP120XUSB: manual direct drive with USB recording and switchable phono/line output. Choose it for control and digitization, not automatic operation.
  • ATH-M series: closed-back monitoring designs. ATH-M50xBT2 adds Bluetooth and battery-powered use; that does not establish better monitoring accuracy than the wired ATH-M50x.
  • ATH-R and ATH-ADX series: open-back listening and reference roles. They leak sound and require a quiet environment; amplifier needs vary by model.
  • ATH-GDL3 and ATH-GL3: wired gaming headsets with detachable boom microphones. GDL3 is open-back; GL3 is closed-back.

Choosing by use

Start with the requirement

  • For vinyl, decide between automatic convenience, manual control, USB capture and Bluetooth before comparing price.
  • For headphones, decide whether isolation or open-back leakage is acceptable, then check fit and amplifier compatibility.
  • For gaming, choose open or closed acoustics based on room noise before treating the microphone as the deciding feature.

Our current assessment

Official product and regional support pages are available for the models reviewed here. Warranty and service routes vary by region and product. We have not yet verified enough independent repair, long-term ownership or owner-remedy evidence to make a brand-wide support conclusion.
