Pro-Ject A1.2

A fully automatic belt-drive record player with an OM10 MM cartridge and switchable phono stage, suited to simpler analogue playback with automatic end return.

Evidence checked / updated: 2026-10-11. Manufacturer claims and editorial system-fit assessment. No SoundPath Lab listening or measurement test.

Verified documentation

  • Mechanism / cartridge: 33⅓/45rpm; 8.3in ultra-light arm, 211mm effective length, preset tracking force/anti-skate; factory Ortofon OM10 MM.
  • Signal paths: Captive stereo RCA and ground lead. Built-in MM stage ON feeds a line input; OFF feeds a matching MM phono input. No documented USB audio or wireless output.
  • Size / power: 430 × 130 × 365mm W/H/D, 5.6kg; supplied 15V/0.8A DC supply, manufacturer consumption 1.5W.
  • Automatic-start boundary: 45rpm automatic start targets 7in singles. A 12in 45rpm or 10in record needs manual start; the manual retains automatic end return.

Best for

A listener prioritising automatic start/return and a built-in phono stage over cartridge experimentation.

Avoid if

You require 78rpm, automatic start for every record size, wireless playback or broad arm/cartridge adjustment.

Limits and unknowns

Preset arm settings limit casual cartridge swaps. Record size and speed affect automatic start. A built-in phono stage does not replace a power amplifier or headphone amplifier.

Current verdict

A fully automatic belt-drive record player with an OM10 MM cartridge and switchable phono stage, suited to simpler analogue playback with automatic end return.

Why it fits

A listener prioritising automatic start/return and a built-in phono stage over cartridge experimentation.

What it can replace

An analogue turntable role where automatic end return and switchable line/phono connection solve a practical problem. It does not replace the downstream amplifier/speakers.

What it cannot replace

You require 78rpm, automatic start for every record size, wireless playback or broad arm/cartridge adjustment.

What SoundPath Lab tested

Official model documentation and the listed sources were reviewed. No SoundPath Lab unit was listened to, measured, installed or firmware-retested. L2 is complete decision coverage, not independent test acceptance or a score.

What remains untested

Actual sound, noise, output limits, room response or digital compatibility, unit variation and long-term reliability remain untested. No owner case or fix outcome was independently assessed in this revision.

System conditions

Place level on a stable surface. Use MM output matching and grounding; do not feed enabled phono-stage output through another phono stage. Start unusual-size records manually and protect the stylus during handling.

Alternatives by need

E1.2 standard suits manual playback with an external MM stage; X1 B suits adjustable/balanced phono systems with extra setup. Keep a working manual deck if automatic operation adds no value.

Keep or upgrade

Keep an existing system that already meets these conditions. Upgrade only to solve a specific missing connection, operating requirement or physical constraint. Validate the intended chain before purchase; the documented differences do not establish audible superiority.

When to reassess

Review after a material official specification/configuration change, relevant verified issue, support withdrawal or accepted independent testing. Do not close an issue or infer a maturity change from routine marketing edits.

Ownership evidence

Long-term ownership evidence is pending. No six-month durability or reliability result is claimed.

Firmware, manual and support

The exact model manual was reviewed for signal routing, cartridge setup and maintenance. No user firmware, required control app or subscription is documented for analogue playback. Confirm stylus/cartridge service, shipping protection and warranty with the authorised local distributor.

Current local price, stock, regional warranty, spare parts and guaranteed support horizon remain Unknown. Current official documentation does not prove authorised local stock or a launch/shipping date. Confirm the offer and service terms for the exact configuration.
