Dynaudio Special Forty
A current passive two-way rear-ported anniversary standmount with Esotar Forty tweeter and MSP woofer; finish changes do not create a new hardware identity without evidence.
Evidence checked / updated: 2026-10-11. Manufacturer claims and editorial system-fit assessment. No SoundPath Lab listening or measurement test.
Verified documentation
- Drivers / topology: 28mm Esotar Forty tweeter, 17cm MSP mid/bass; two-way first-order crossover at 2kHz, single amplifier terminal pair; no bi-wire/bi-amp division.
- Response / sensitivity: 41Hz–23kHz ±3dB; sensitivity 86dB at 2.83V/1m. These are manufacturer specifications, not in-room SPL results.
- Load / handling: 6Ω rated impedance; minimum impedance not established by reviewed sources. IEC long-term power handling 200W is not amplifier output or a universal recommended amplifier rating.
- Size / lifecycle identity: 198 × 360 × 307mm W/H/D, depth 322mm incl. grille; 8.1kg per speaker. Official manual references the 2017 anniversary; current official page lists the model as Current. These do not prove regional stock or a new generation for new finishes.
Best for
A passive stereo system with firm stands, rear-port room and an appropriately chosen amplifier, where compact cabinet dimensions are useful.
Avoid if
You need network/Bluetooth/USB inputs, internal amplification, bi-amp terminal separation or guaranteed cinema sub-bass from a small cabinet.
Limits and unknowns
Rated impedance does not prove minimum load. Power handling does not establish maximum clean output. Rear-wall proximity, stand stability and amplifier clipping affect practical use; long-term ownership and unit variation are untested.
Current verdict
A current passive two-way rear-ported anniversary standmount with Esotar Forty tweeter and MSP woofer; finish changes do not create a new hardware identity without evidence.
Why it fits
A passive stereo system with firm stands, rear-port room and an appropriately chosen amplifier, where compact cabinet dimensions are useful.
What it can replace
A passive two-way standmount role in a compatible amplified system. It does not replace an active all-in-one speaker or provide separate amplifier access to its drivers.
What it cannot replace
You need network/Bluetooth/USB inputs, internal amplification, bi-amp terminal separation or guaranteed cinema sub-bass from a small cabinet.
What SoundPath Lab tested
Official model documentation and the listed sources were reviewed. No SoundPath Lab unit was listened to, measured, installed or firmware-retested. L2 is complete decision coverage, not independent test acceptance or a score.
What remains untested
Actual sound, noise, output limits, room response or digital compatibility, unit variation and long-term reliability remain untested. No owner case or fix outcome was independently assessed in this revision.
System conditions
Use amplifier speaker outputs with matching polarity and suitable banana/spade/bare-wire connections. No bi-amp wiring path is provided. Support the cabinet on stable stands, adjust rear-port clearance/foam as instructed and avoid clipped amplifier output. Validate any subwoofer crossover in the actual room.
Alternatives by need
705 S3 changes top-tweeter placement/height and terminal options; Concept 30 changes cabinet isolation/bi-wire features. Compare physical and electrical fit, not a presumed tonal or efficiency hierarchy.
Keep or upgrade
Keep an existing system that already meets these conditions. Upgrade only to solve a specific missing connection, operating requirement or physical constraint. Validate the intended chain before purchase; the documented differences do not establish audible superiority.
When to reassess
Review after a material official specification/configuration change, relevant verified issue, support withdrawal or accepted independent testing. Do not close an issue or infer a maturity change from routine marketing edits.
Ownership evidence
Long-term ownership evidence is pending. No six-month durability or reliability result is claimed.
Firmware, manual and support
Official model page and Special Forty manual cover connection, positioning, port adaptation and care. Passive operation requires no firmware, app or subscription. Warranty entitlement, repair lead time and spare-driver availability depend on region and remain unverified.
Current local price, stock, regional warranty, spare parts and guaranteed support horizon remain Unknown. Current official documentation does not prove authorised local stock or a launch/shipping date. Confirm the offer and service terms for the exact configuration.
