Chord Electronics Mojo 2
A portable FPGA DAC/headphone amplifier with four-band DSP; current and legacy hardware require different connection instructions.
Evidence checked / updated: 2026-10-11. Manufacturer claims and editorial system-fit assessment. No SoundPath Lab listening or measurement test.
Verified documentation
- Digital inputs: USB-C, Micro-USB, optical and 3.5 mm digital coaxial; USB supports PCM768 and DoP DSD256.
- Current 4.4 mm hardware: One 3.5 mm and one 4.4 mm headphone output; USB-C playback/charging is configurable in its matching manual. A 4.4 mm socket alone does not prove a balanced amplifier.
- Legacy hardware: The 2022 v1.2 manual covers two 3.5 mm outputs and separate Micro-USB charging. Do not apply the new port layout to these units.
- Manufacturer output power: 600 mW/30 ohms and 90 mW/300 ohms at 1% distortion; not independent measurements.
- Outputs: Hardware-dependent: current 3.5 + 4.4 mm; legacy two 3.5 mm. Use the matching manual.
Best for
a compact wired headphone system with user-adjustable EQ
Avoid if
You need a self-contained network streamer, screen-based controls, or confirmed balanced headphone amplification.
Limits and unknowns
Buy and operate by the actual hardware revision. On the 4.4 mm revision, simultaneous outputs use the stored 4.4 mm volume/DSP; sensitive 3.5 mm headphones can receive an unexpected level.
Current verdict
Conditional shortlist for a compact wired headphone system with user-adjustable EQ. The recommendation depends on the documented system conditions, not an independent sound-quality ranking.
Why it fits
A portable FPGA DAC/headphone amplifier with four-band DSP; current and legacy hardware require different connection instructions. This assessment is an editorial inference from the documented topology.
What it can replace
Can consolidate the functions stated in the profile when the source, load and control path meet the conditions below. The useful replacement is a function or connection gap, rather than an assumed improvement in sound.
What it cannot replace
You need a self-contained network streamer, screen-based controls, or confirmed balanced headphone amplification.
What SoundPath Lab tested
SoundPath Lab checked primary-source model identity, the stated interfaces and conditions, and this decision profile. No device was listened to, measured, installed, firmware-retested or endurance-tested for this review.
What remains untested
Actual sound preference, noise with your headphones or speakers, software behavior, room results, connection stability and long-term reliability remain untested. Manufacturer measurements below are not SPL measurements.
System conditions
Check the ports against the correct manual before charging. Unplug sensitive 3.5 mm headphones before inserting a 4.4 mm pair, then set volume safely. Poly is an optional separate network accessory.
Alternatives by need
Hugo 2 adds broader desktop/line duties; hip-dac 3 is an alternative when true balanced headphone output and separate charging matter more than Mojo DSP.
Keep or upgrade
Keep a working system if it already provides the connections and level you need. Consider this model only if its documented role solves the specific need described above; check the alternatives and all remaining costs before changing equipment.
When to reassess
Reassess after a material manual or firmware change, an independently reproduced issue, a hardware revision, or a documented change in service or repair availability. A routine update does not prove that an existing issue is resolved.
Ownership evidence
No six-month ownership study was performed. Battery wear, pad or stylus replacement, service dependence and local repair access should be evaluated for the actual use case. No future reliability outcome is predicted.
Firmware, manual and support
The linked official model manual was read for connection and operation conditions. Follow the manual matching your hardware and market. Current firmware, app compatibility and the long-term repair horizon remain unverified unless separately stated.
Launch day, globally uniform price, local authorized stock, repair turnaround and guaranteed support end date were not established in this review. Regional store offers are not global availability. No defect-free or six-month reliability claim is made.
Unresolved source conflicts
- Two official manuals describe different physical port layouts. This is a documented hardware revision distinction, not an assumed firmware upgrade of old units.
