Cayin ID6 — Evidence Profile

L2 documentation-based Decision Profile · checked 22 October 2026 · not an SPL test.

Decision first

Shortlist ID6 when one desktop unit needs to combine streaming, USB DAC input, headphone listening and a controllable preamp. Keep a simpler working DAC/amp if those extra roles add no practical value; tube mode does not establish better sound.

Official evidence and operating conditions

The official ID6 introduction specifies customised Android 14, one ES9082Q DAC per channel, 12AU7-based tube modes alongside solid-state mode, and selectable Class A/AB headphone operation. These are architecture descriptions, not SPL listening conclusions.

The official parameter table distinguishes headphone output from line and preamp outputs: balanced 4.4 mm is rated 2.6 + 2.6 W at 32Ω and 4.0 + 4.0 W at 16Ω; single-ended 6.35 mm is 0.9 + 0.9 W at 32Ω and 1.6 + 1.6 W at 16Ω. The table does not attach a distortion threshold to those power rows.

At 47 kΩ load, fixed LINE OUT is listed as 4 Vrms XLR / 2 Vrms RCA; volume-controlled PRE OUT has maximum 12 Vrms XLR / 6 Vrms RCA. Those line-level values are not headphone power.

The official introduction identifies USB DAC input, HDMI ARC and I²S output. A TV ARC input and an I²S digital output are different roles; an HDMI-shaped I²S connector is not proof of HDMI video compatibility.

Match the receiving amplifier to fixed LINE OUT or volume-controlled PRE OUT deliberately. Check input sensitivity, begin at low volume and avoid assuming the maximum preamp level is safe for every downstream component. Validate the exact TV ARC format and any I²S pin mapping with the connected device. Coaxial/optical direction and formats need exact-model operating confirmation before a purchase depends on them.

Who it fits — and who should wait

Fits: A desktop headphone system that also needs network apps, a computer USB DAC input and documented line/preamp choices.

Wait or keep your system: A buyer who needs verified silent IEM performance, guaranteed third-party app support, universal TV/I²S compatibility, or a proven tube-versus-solid-state listening advantage.

Alternatives and upgrade decision

Compare the existing FiiO K15 profile by the input, preamp and network roles you actually need, then verify each device under its own load and distortion conditions. A working USB DAC/amp plus an existing streamer may already cover the requirement.

Software, support and regional limits

The Chinese exact-model download list identifies system V1.0.1, dated 16 September 2026, separately from MCU V1.0.53. Cayin states DLNA/Airplay playback, wired-status icon and cover-art fixes in V1.0.1; SPL has not verified these repairs. Keep power connected, back up settings, follow the exact ID6 OTA/local update instructions, and confirm the version after restart. Some underlying updates may require a factory reset. No firmware package download, installation or global latest-version claim is made.

The English introduction states a planned September 2026 launch and USD 1,899 suggested price, with regional variation. Chinese product/download material is already dated July–September. These regional records must not be collapsed into a single worldwide first-launch or shipping date.

What we reviewed; what we did not test

Documentation and editorial system-fit review only. SPL has not installed, listened to, measured or reliability-tested this unit. No verified repair, score or recommendation certification is added.

Acceptance is based on the exact-model sources below and an editorial assessment of system roles. L2 is documentation completeness for a qualified decision, not a listening endorsement. The complete owner manual remains unaccepted.

  • Exact-model owner manual was not obtained; complete digital direction/format, I²S pin mapping and app compatibility remain pending.
  • The manufacturer parameter image notes prototype illustrations/specifications may change; confirm the shipped regional unit.
  • SPL has not tested power, hiss, tube behaviour, temperature, ARC, USB or network playback.
  • Current local stock, shipping, repair/parts continuity and support horizon remain unverified.

Sources and reassessment

Source statements retain their region, workload and date. Reassess when operating documentation, shipped configuration or independent evidence changes. No offer, availability, aggregated rating or invented listening result is created. The same evidence standard applies to represented and unrepresented brands.
