WiiM Amp No-MFI Sample Variant: Firmware and Buying Limits
A manufacturer clarification limits this warning to the WiiM_AMP_No_MFI sample project; it does not establish that retail WiiM Amp support has ended.
Issue ID: SPL-WII-AMP-NOMFI-001 · Status: open-confirmed — manufacturer-confirmed variant limitation.
Confirmed: 6 October 2026 · Last checked / published: 7 October 2026.
Before buying a used WiiM Amp, verify its exact variant and firmware path. On 23 September 2026, WiiM staff clarified that the identified WiiM_AMP_No_MFI unit belongs to an experimental/sample variant that WiiM says it did not sell externally. Staff associated its older fixed firmware and missing features with that non-retail identity. This statement does not establish a support withdrawal for ordinary retail WiiM Amp.
Scope and evidence
Affected scope: the identified No-MFI project; serial-number and complete hardware-revision range Unknown. One exact-project owner report records Linkplay.5.0.732549 and PCB version 5. That build is an owner observation, not a verified current-version table for every sample unit.
Evidence grade: E3 for WiiM’s official clarification; E0 for the single owner’s build observation. One manufacturer organization and one confirmed exact-project owner account. Total affected devices and incidence: Unknown. No independent SoundPath Lab device test was performed.
What this means for buyers and owners
Editorial guidance: ask the seller for model/project identity, the displayed firmware version and a written support route before purchase. Check the actual functions you need rather than transferring the standard Amp feature list to a sample unit. A low used price does not establish firmware eligibility. Avoid installing a standard Amp package onto a differently identified unit without model-specific manufacturer instructions.
Trigger / impact: assuming a second-hand sample follows standard retail Amp updates can leave expected features unavailable. Verified migration, recovery or equivalent workaround: none collected. A working unit’s local functions must be assessed separately; no hardware shutdown is asserted.
