Roon on Apple OS 27: build 1700 fixes Apple TV; verification pending
Roon build 1700 adds the Apple TV/tvOS 27 fix. All Apple OS 27 repair claims await independent verification; the one-time PIN pairing step is required.
Issue ID: SPL-ROON-OS27-001
Roon’s Production releases claim fixes for Apple OS 27 playback paths, including Apple TV in build 1700. Owner outcomes differ by route, and the current HomePod support notice conflicts with the earlier hotfix claim. Independent verification remains incomplete; see the dated follow-up below.
Scoped evidence review: 16 October 2026. Previous Production check: 11 October 2026. Original record confirmed: 3 October 2026. Evidence: E3 official claims, with attributed owner follow-ups below; no SoundPath Lab retest.
Scope and status: Roon Server on macOS 27 with missing network audio zones, and Roon playback to HomePod on software 27: resolved-pending-verification following Roon 2.73.1 build 1696 Production. Roon playback to Apple TV on tvOS 27: resolved-pending-verification, fixed according to Roon 2.73.2 build 1700 Production (7 October 2026). Apple TV was explicitly excluded from the older build 1696 fix. Exact Mac/HomePod/Apple TV hardware generations, affected Roon build range, regions and affected-unit count: Unknown. Do not generalize this to other AirPlay speakers.
Owner impact: An operating-system update can interrupt an otherwise working playback system. Before replacing a streamer or changing hardware, check this software path and retest discovery and audible playback after updating Roon. This is editorial guidance, not a diagnosis of an individual device.
Timeline and brand response: First official macOS observation: 18 September 2026. Related HomePod/Apple TV notice: 23 September. Fix released: 30 September, build 1696 Production; official downloads are available. Evidence collected and record added: 3 October. Apple TV fix released: 7 October, build 1700 Production; added here 11 October. Brand contacted: not performed. The response here is Roon’s public notice, not a reply to SoundPath Lab. SoundPath Lab retest: not performed. Independent Owner repair confirmations: not collected; no recovery rate is claimed.
Workaround history: Roon’s 18 September macOS procedure adds local-network exemptions across all apps on the Mac and requires a restart. It is broader than Roon and is not a permanent fix. Consult the official instructions and their undo section if this workaround was previously applied; do not assume existing exemptions are automatically removed by updating. Apple TV post-update action: in Settings > Audio, disable the existing Apple TV zone, enable it again, then enter the PIN shown on the TV once. This is Roon’s documented pairing step, not independently verified recovery. The earlier notice documented no Apple TV workaround.
Evidence accounting: Five official publications from one independent organization, Roon Labs; buyer-report count not collected. Lifecycle: no discontinuation or support-termination claim; support deadline Unknown. All three repair claims remain pending independent verification. Next review: 18 October 2026, or earlier on new official evidence.

Revision: 3 Oct 2026 — Promoted the earlier macOS compatibility lead using the current hotfix evidence; separated the two repair claims from the still-open tvOS condition. Kept SPL-ROON-RB-001 unchanged.
7 October Production evidence: Roon 2.73.2 build 1700 release notes. Mobile builds were submitted to stores; that announcement does not prove complete availability. No new ARC build is stated. A database upgrade after installing is expected.
Revision: 11 Oct 2026 — Added the Apple TV/tvOS 27 Production fix claim and one-time re-pairing step. Status: resolved-pending-verification for macOS, HomePod and Apple TV. No SPL retest or independent Owner recovery collected. Product Issues index; Tracker. Original URL, issue identity and build 1696 history retained.
Second-pass revision: 11 October 2026 — current Production availability. The official Current Production Versions list, checked today, shows build 1700 for macOS, Windows, Linux/RoonOS, Android and iOS. ARC remains on separate Production build 427. The 7 October store-submission wording above describes the announcement stage; it does not override this newer version-list evidence. Availability for every individual store account remains unverified. Source accounting is now five official release/support publications from one organization, plus the downloads page. This is not independent playback verification: all three fix states remain resolved-pending-verification, and the one-time Apple TV disable/re-enable/PIN step remains required.
16 October 2026: recovery reports and unresolved routes
The earlier statements that owner recovery had not been collected describe the 11 October review. This follow-up records attributed outcomes, not SoundPath Lab tests or a recovery rate.
Direct HomePod playback: in the owner thread, page 5, Chris_Keller reported audible playback on 1 October with Roon 2.73 build 1696 on ROCK and a second-generation HomePod on OS 27.0. Brooks_Graham also reported recovery on a HomePod mini, without an exact Roon build. Chris_Monache later corrected an apparent failure: the Server had remained on an older version. Those posts do not establish recovery for every generation or route. Alan_Tuszynski linked recovery to disabling a HomeKit passcode; we record that security-relevant condition but do not recommend weakening access controls.
Apple TV to HomePod: in the subsequent follow-up, page 6, Nicolas_GUIRAL reported that Roon 2.73.2 on sonicTransporter played to a direct HomePod 2 stereo pair, while two Apple TV/default-output HomePod 2 pairs still failed after restarting and re-pairing with the displayed PIN. Exact build numbers were absent. hamuAOD’s Ubuntu/Apple TV route also remained unsuccessful; a 15 October post offered logs, not recovery. Randy_Asher reported individual playback but failed grouping on 13 October, without a Roon build. These are distinct configurations, not a comparable success/failure denominator. Staff requests for logs on 11–14 October and locally developed improvements are not a released fix.
Official-source conflict: the current OS 27 summary still describes HomePod silence without a workaround, alongside its Apple TV 2.73.2 fix. This conflicts with the earlier HomePod hotfix claim. Both dated records are retained; the conflict is unresolved.
SPL-ROON-OS27-001 remains resolved-pending-verification as a record of the official fix claims, with the HomePod source conflict and unsuccessful indirect/grouped routes explicitly open. No path is promoted to independently verified resolution. RoonOS 284 and Early Access 1708/ARC 432 are separate releases and do not close this issue.
Revision: 16 October 2026 — added scoped owner outcomes, corrections and current official-source conflict; earlier build and review history retained. Follow-up checked 20 October 2026 — In the same linked page-6 thread, verified Roon Staff member Stephen acknowledged an Apple TV-to-HomePod regression on 16 October (post 124), opened a ticket and proposed temporarily removing HomePods from Apple TV. This changes the linked audio arrangement; it is a workaround with a tradeoff, not a repaired equivalent route. A 15 October request to disable compatibility mode produced mixed attributed responses: Jose_Luis_Tato reported success without a matched configuration, while hamuAOD still had Apple TV playback failure but direct HomePod mini playback. The exact introducing build and affected hardware range remain Unknown. The linked route stays open-confirmed / workaround-available; earlier direct-playback recovery reports and build 1696/1700 repair claims remain separate and pending independent verification. No new released fix or SPL retest is established by posts 120–128.
