System compatibility
Check region, software, AirPlay source and matching speaker model. Four-speaker surround specifically needs Apple TV4K4th generation. Do not infer that earlier HomePod mini or Apple TV generations qualify.
Alternatives by need
Sonos Era100 is an existing alternative for a different speaker ecosystem; check its optional input adapter and system conditions. Keep an existing HomePod/mini if ordinary music and home control already meet the need.
Keep or upgrade
Wait for the required Siri feature and compatibility to ship before replacing a working speaker for a future promise.
