**Evidence label: Early comparative analysis — specification-based, not a simultaneous hands-on or listening test.**

**Checked: August 28, 2026.** FiiO launched the AIR AMP internationally on August 19, 2026\. Features, certifications, app behavior, firmware and regional availability may change as the product reaches more markets.

The FiiO AIR AMP and WiiM Amp are genuinely comparable. Both combine a network streamer, DAC, Class-D power amplifier and volume control in one compact box. Both drive passive speakers, accept digital and analogue sources, support a subwoofer and use a TI TPA3255 amplifier chip.

They are also close enough in price to appear on the same shortlist. The AIR AMP was listed at **$249.99** by a US retailer when checked, while WiiM showed the Amp at **$329** on its US product page.

But they are not interchangeable.

The **FiiO AIR AMP is the more hardware-oriented choice**: more rated power with its standard supply, USB DAC input, coaxial input, LDAC Bluetooth, NAS and USB storage playback, a preamp output and a small display.

The **WiiM Amp is the more complete living-room streaming system**: HDMI ARC, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Alexa Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, mature multi-room options, room correction and more developed subwoofer management.

The practical decision is therefore not “which amplifier chip is better?” Both use the same amplifier family. It is whether your system is built around **a TV and streaming services** or around **USB, local files and higher power headroom**.

## The power comparison needs context

On paper, AIR AMP has the advantage. With the included 48V/5A adapter, FiiO specifies at least 90W per channel into 8 ohms and 120W per channel into 4 ohms at below 1% THD+N. WiiM rates the Amp at 60W per channel into 8 ohms and 120W per channel into 4 ohms.

That makes AIR AMP more attractive for less-sensitive speakers, larger rooms or listeners who need extra 8-ohm headroom. It does not prove that AIR AMP will sound better. Speaker impedance, power-supply behavior, protection limits, cooling, gain structure and distortion across the full audio band all matter.

The advertised **235W-per-channel AIR AMP figure should not be used as the headline comparison**. It requires a separately purchased 48V/10A supply, and FiiO's published condition allows up to 10% THD+N. Ten percent is near clipping, not a normal hi-fi listening target. It shows the approximate outer limit of the amplifier and supply combination, not 235 clean watts for everyday use.

WiiM's 4-ohm rating also needs caution because its public comparison table does not attach a directly matching THD+N condition to the 120W figure. Until independent measurements of AIR AMP are available under the same load, bandwidth and distortion threshold, the defensible conclusion is narrower: **AIR AMP has the stronger published 8-ohm rating with its included supply; a laboratory power winner cannot yet be declared.**

Both products using TPA3255 does not make them acoustically identical. The feedback implementation, DAC and ADC paths, output filter, power supply, thermal design and firmware can produce measurable differences.

## WiiM Amp is much better suited to a TV system

This is the largest practical difference.

WiiM Amp has HDMI ARC. Connect a television with one HDMI cable and the TV remote can control everyday volume. WiiM specifies stereo PCM input, so Dolby Digital and DTS must be disabled or converted by the TV, but the workflow is still far simpler than using an optical connection and a separate remote.

AIR AMP does not list HDMI ARC. A television can feed its optical input, but source switching and volume control will depend on the FiiO remote, app or the behavior of the TV's optical output. For a system used equally for television and music, this omission matters more than USB sample-rate numbers.

WiiM also adds room correction and a documented, adjustable 30–250Hz subwoofer crossover. Those features help integrate speakers and a powered subwoofer in a real room. AIR AMP provides PEQ, AUTO EQ, bass/treble adjustment and a subwoofer output, but the currently available material does not document a WiiM-like automated room-measurement workflow or equally detailed bass-management controls.

**For a compact TV-and-music system, WiiM Amp is the safer choice.**

## AIR AMP is much better suited to a computer or local library

FiiO gives AIR AMP a proper XMOS USB DAC input. A Windows PC, Mac or compatible USB source can send audio directly to the amplifier, with published support up to PCM 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512\. The practical value is the direct computer connection; the extreme format numbers alone should not drive a purchase.

WiiM Amp's USB port handles storage and USB audio output. It is not documented as a USB DAC input from a computer. A desktop user would need optical, analogue, network playback or another interface.

AIR AMP also includes coaxial digital input, NAS playback, USB-drive playback and an analogue preamp output. That pre-out allows AIR AMP to act as a streamer/DAC/controller for an external power amplifier or active speakers later. WiiM Amp has a subwoofer output and USB audio output, but no conventional analogue pre-out.

For a desk, local music collection or system likely to gain a separate power amplifier, AIR AMP is the more flexible hub.

## WiiM has the broader documented streaming ecosystem

WiiM explicitly documents AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Alexa Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, DLNA, Roon Ready and grouping with WiiM, HomePod, Nest and Echo products where supported. WiiM Home also acts as a unified control layer for multiple services, presets, alarms, EQ, room correction and multi-room playback.

FiiO's launch material and current retailer specification list Roon Ready, AirPlay, QPlay, network streaming, NAS playback and control through FiiO Control. They do not clearly document Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast or Alexa Cast for AIR AMP. The word “AirPlay” should also not be silently upgraded to “AirPlay 2.”

That does not prove that an unlisted service can never be added. It means a buyer should not assume support that FiiO has not clearly documented for this model. If a specific native app, Connect protocol or multi-room platform is essential, verify it on the shipping firmware before the return period ends.

AIR AMP was only launched internationally on August 19, 2026\. Its long-term app stability, firmware cadence, certification status and service behavior have not yet accumulated the evidence available for WiiM Amp. SoundPath Lab will update this comparison when repeatable tests and sustained user reports become available.

## Bluetooth favors different use cases

AIR AMP receives Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC and LDAC. For an Android phone or compatible player, LDAC is useful when quick high-bitrate Bluetooth playback matters.

WiiM Amp uses Bluetooth 5.1 and is documented as both receiver and transmitter. That makes it more flexible when the amplifier must send audio to Bluetooth headphones or another Bluetooth speaker. WiiM does not list LDAC for Amp.

Choose AIR AMP for LDAC reception. Choose WiiM Amp if two-way Bluetooth is more important.

## Everyday hardware and installation

AIR AMP is smaller and much lighter because its power supply is an external brick. The 1.1-inch display gives immediate input and status information, and the infrared remote is included.

WiiM Amp is taller and heavier, but it accepts a standard AC power cable and hides the power supply inside the chassis. That can produce a cleaner installation around a television or cabinet. It includes a voice-capable remote and front controls but no display.

Neither arrangement is universally better. AIR AMP saves chassis space but adds a large adapter; WiiM takes more shelf volume but needs only an AC cable.

## Final verdict

There is no universal winner because these amplifiers optimize different systems.

**FiiO AIR AMP is the stronger value for a music-first system built around a computer, local files, Roon, AirPlay, Bluetooth LDAC or conventional digital sources.** Its USB input, pre-out and stronger 8-ohm rating give it hardware flexibility that WiiM Amp lacks.

**WiiM Amp remains the better all-in-one choice for a living room built around a television, mainstream streaming services, multi-room playback and room correction.** Its lower power rating is a reasonable trade when the connected speakers are not difficult to drive.

The deciding question is simple: **do you need HDMI ARC and a broad streaming ecosystem, or USB/local-file flexibility and more published power?** Answer that before comparing DAC chips or maximum sample rates.

## Evidence, limitations and disclosure

**Evidence basis:** FiiO's international and Chinese launch notices, FiiO-linked purchase information, the current Apos product specification, and WiiM's official product and technical-support pages. Product roles, connections and published limits are verified facts from those sources. Conclusions about system fit are editorial judgments.

**Hands-on status:** SoundPath Lab has not performed a simultaneous hands-on comparison, controlled listening test or laboratory measurement of these two units. No subjective sound-quality winner is claimed.

**Firmware and versions reviewed:** Public product and support information available on August 28, 2026\. AIR AMP shipping firmware version was not stated in the material reviewed.

**Limitations:** AIR AMP is newly launched. Independent same-condition power, noise, frequency-response, thermal, latency and app-reliability measurements were not available for this comparison. Service support, certifications, app functions, prices and regional features can change.

**Commercial disclosure:** SoundPath Lab did not receive either product as a sponsored loaner for this comparison. No manufacturer or retailer reviewed or approved the conclusion. Buying links may generate revenue where an affiliate relationship exists, but affiliate status, margin, stock and availability have zero weight in product inclusion, ranking or conclusions. **Checked: September 7, 2026.** FiiO AIR AMP specifications, current US pricing and package contents were rechecked alongside WiiM Amp firmware, feature documentation and current US pricing. Features, certifications, app behavior, firmware and regional availability may change.

### September 4 firmware update: useful changes, but conflicting documentation

WiiM's official [firmware 5.2.828335 release note](https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/wiim-amp-firmware-v5-2-828335-update-sep-4-2026.10323/?ref=soundpathlab.com) says WiiM Amp gained Auto Headroom and Subwoofer Calibration. It also lists improvements for multi-room audio, Bluetooth and Spotify Connect, plus USB-library and standby-source fixes. Auto Headroom is intended to reduce digital clipping when EQ or room correction applies positive gain.

There is an important documentation conflict. WiiM's [Subwoofer Calibration guide](https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions/articles/72000658157-subwoofer-calibration-one-tap-sync-between-main-speakers-and-subwoofer-at-the-listening-position?ref=soundpathlab.com), modified on September 4, says that only WiiM Ultra and WiiM Amp Ultra currently support the feature, with WiiM Amp and Amp Pro support planned for a future update. The separate [Auto Headroom guide](https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions/articles/72000661112-introducing-auto-headroom-to-prevent-audio-clipping?ref=soundpathlab.com) also describes WiiM Ultra rather than confirming ordinary WiiM Amp behavior.

Treat these two functions as **firmware-release claims with conflicting support documentation**, not as independently verified WiiM Amp capabilities. Owners should check that firmware 5.2.828335 and the latest WiiM Home app expose the controls on their own unit. Buyers should not choose WiiM Amp solely for automatic subwoofer calibration until the conflict is resolved or shipping behavior is verified.

**For a compact TV-and-music system, WiiM Amp is still the safer choice.**

## Existing owners, keeping your current amplifier, and buying neither

- **Keep a WiiM Amp** if HDMI ARC, the current streaming services and its available power already fit your system. Firmware 5.2.828335 improves daily operation, but it does not create a reason to replace a working unit.
- **Move from WiiM Amp to AIR AMP only** when USB audio from a computer, coaxial input, LDAC reception, analogue pre-out or additional published 8-ohm headroom solves a real limitation. You would give up HDMI ARC and WiiM's broader documented streaming ecosystem.
- **Keep an AIR AMP** if your system is music-first and its inputs, external power supply and current app behavior work for you. WiiM's new firmware is not, by itself, an upgrade reason.
- **Buy neither** if your present amplifier already drives the speakers cleanly and reliably. Adding or retaining a separate streamer can preserve the amplifier and solve only the missing network feature.
- **Spend less** by adding the single missing input or streaming function to an existing amplifier instead of replacing the entire amplification chain. The right choice depends on the actual missing function, not on a newer DAC chip or a larger advertised wattage.

## Which one should you buy?

### Buy FiiO AIR AMP if:

- You need USB audio from a computer.
- You use NAS storage, USB drives or coaxial digital sources.
- You want the stronger published 8-ohm power rating with the included supply.
- LDAC reception matters.
- You want an analogue preamp output for future system expansion.
- You prefer a front display and can accept an external power brick.
- HDMI ARC, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast and advanced multi-room integration are not requirements.

### Buy WiiM Amp if:

- The system will be used with a television through HDMI ARC.
- Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast, Alexa Cast or AirPlay 2 are central to daily listening.
- You want established multi-room integration.
- Room correction and documented subwoofer crossover control matter.
- You want a simpler one-cable AC installation.
- Sixty watts per channel into 8 ohms is appropriate for your speakers and room.
- You value platform maturity more than USB DAC and coaxial inputs.

**Firmware and versions reviewed:** FiiO AIR AMP public product and retailer information, plus WiiM Amp firmware 5.2.828335 and related support documentation, checked on September 7, 2026\. AIR AMP shipping firmware version was not stated in the material reviewed.

**Limitations:** AIR AMP is newly launched. No reproducible independent same-condition AIR AMP power, distortion, noise, frequency-response, thermal, latency or app-reliability test was located during the September 7 review. WiiM's firmware and support pages conflict on ordinary WiiM Amp availability of Auto Headroom and automatic subwoofer calibration.

See the [Disclosure & Funding policy](https://www.soundpathlab.com/disclosure-funding/).

**Reassessment — September 7, 2026:** **Reviewed — verdict unchanged.** WiiM Amp firmware 5.2.828335 adds meaningful stability fixes and claims Auto Headroom and Subwoofer Calibration, but the related support documents do not yet consistently confirm those functions for the ordinary WiiM Amp. Current US prices remain $249.99 for AIR AMP at Apos and $329 for WiiM Amp on WiiM's site. No new independent AIR AMP measurement set or sufficient long-term owner evidence was located.
