- Description: Ten music streamers compared by system fit, complete cost, delivered features, firmware evidence and unresolved real-world tests—without numerical scores.
- Author: SoundPath Lab

*Price and feature snapshot: September 25, 2026 (U.S. market). This first edition is an evidence-qualified comparison. It does not assign numerical scores and does not claim that all ten products have completed identical SoundPath Lab testing.*

The best music streamer is not the box with the longest specification sheet. It is the one that fits the system you already own, completes the jobs you actually need, and does not make you spend the next year working around software and recovery problems.

That is why this comparison starts with three questions:

1. Will it work with your system and required services?
2. What does the extra money actually replace or improve?
3. How much setup, recovery and maintenance cost comes after purchase?

We selected ten candidates across six brands. WiiM Pro Plus and WiiM Ultra now have dated, scoped SoundPath Lab functional tests in the current evidence set. Their test conditions and coverage differ; this is not an identical head-to-head test matrix. The other candidates have verified product identities and primary-source specifications. We list positive evidence, limitations and unknowns instead of turning missing evidence into a score or inventing a precise 1–10 order.

## Start with your system, not the price ladder

### You already own a DAC

Start with the FiiO SR11, WiiM Mini, WiiM Pro Plus and Bluesound NODE NANO. The SR11 is the lowest-cost dedicated digital transport in this group, but it has no analogue output: its real cost includes the DAC, cable and any additional hardware required to make sound. WiiM Mini is a simple optical endpoint, while Pro Plus adds coaxial output, Ethernet-class system flexibility and more protocols. NODE NANO asks for a much higher price in exchange for BluOS, desktop controllers and a documented SMB library path.

Do not pay extra for a DAC chip you will bypass.

### You need analogue output for an old amplifier or powered speakers

WiiM Pro Plus has a dated SoundPath Lab operating record relevant to this analogue-output scenario, so it remains our current limited recommendation—not a complete winner. WiiM Ultra also has a dated scoped functional session; its analogue measurements, loaded headphones, RoomFit and long-term reliability remain untested. Arylic LP10 is the most interesting $99 challenger because it adds Ethernet and Google Cast at the same listed price as WiiM Mini. Its GO CONTROL app can also discover and synchronise playback with compatible Linkplay A31-module devices, including Arylic S10+ and compatible products sold by iEAST and EMiUZEK. That cross-brand A31 interoperability is a substantial advantage, but it must be tied to the actual module and firmware rather than assumed from the brand name alone.

Fosi S3 is the critical comparison at $259.99\. It costs only $10.99 more than the $249 Pro Plus and adds balanced XLR, HDMI eARC and subwoofer output. Its unresolved question is software delivery. Fosi says Roon Ready certification is still in progress, and its FAQ says some controls shown in the app are reserved for future versions and do not work on S3\. The hardware advantage is real; whether it becomes a better daily product requires current-version testing.

### You need a TV, turntable, subwoofer or local-library hub

WiiM Ultra, Arylic LP100, Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 and FiiO S15 belong here, but they solve different problems.

Ultra is a strong $349 system hub with HDMI ARC, phono input, headphone output, USB and managed subwoofer integration. It does not support AirPlay 2\. That is not a small deduction for an Apple household; it is a compatibility gate.

LP100 lists AirPlay 2, Google Cast, HDMI eARC, phono input and subwoofer output at $399\. Arylic still describes Roon Ready as a future OTA feature, so we treat native Roon as unavailable today.

DMP-A6 Gen 2 and S15 are advanced reference products. Their value should be tested through library indexing, search, local operation, storage, app switching and system integration—not inferred from DAC chips. The S15 is a full-width 430 mm, roughly 5 kg component with a 7.84-inch screen and Android 12\. It is not “light” in the physical sense, but it is useful for showing what the move from hundreds to more than one thousand dollars buys in workflow.

## Four comparisons that explain where the money goes

### Arylic LP10 vs WiiM Mini: both $99, different ecosystems

LP10 offers Ethernet and Google Cast, while WiiM’s official comparison identifies Mini as lacking both Google Cast and Roon Ready. But the feature count does not decide the winner. LP10 uses GO CONTROL, which can discover and synchronise playback with compatible Linkplay A31-module products across brands. That gives owners of products such as Arylic S10+ and compatible iEAST or EMiUZEK endpoints a meaningful migration and expansion path that WiiM Mini does not provide.

The test is therefore not “which row has more check marks?” It is whether onboarding, playback, grouping and recovery work better with the phones, services and existing endpoints in the buyer’s home.

### GO CONTROL’s overlooked advantage: cross-brand A31 grouping

This deserves its own buying criterion. SoundPath Lab operator use confirms that GO CONTROL can find compatible Linkplay A31-module devices and synchronise playback across products carrying different brand names, including Arylic S10+ and compatible iEAST and EMiUZEK devices. The advantage is not merely a longer protocol checklist: it can preserve an existing multiroom investment while adding an LP10.

The boundary matters. “iEAST”, “EMiUZEK” or “older Arylic” is not by itself proof of compatibility; the endpoint must actually use the supported A31 module and a compatible firmware generation. We therefore record the observed interoperability as positive operational evidence while keeping a formal mixed-firmware onboarding, grouping, interruption and recovery matrix pending.

### WiiM Pro Plus vs Fosi S3: a $10.99 hardware challenge

At this snapshot, S3 costs $10.99 more and adds XLR, HDMI eARC and subwoofer output. If those connections replace another device, the value is obvious.

The open question is the software cost. Fosi’s own page says Roon Ready is not yet supported, even though a protocol table on the same page also lists it. We follow the explicit current-status statement and treat Roon as unavailable until certification is delivered. We also need to verify which app controls work on the current firmware, how HDMI/CEC recovers, and whether volume behavior is safe and predictable.

### WiiM Ultra vs Arylic LP100: compatibility before recommendation

Ultra explicitly does not support AirPlay 2\. LP100 supports AirPlay 2, but describes Roon Ready as coming through a future OTA update.

An AirPlay 2 requirement makes Ultra ineligible. A current native Roon Ready requirement makes LP100 ineligible. Other strengths must never override a failed required path.

### Hundreds to more than a thousand dollars: test workflow, not chip prestige

The advanced group should be tested with a real library. How long does it take to index 10,000 tracks? How many metadata errors appear? How many steps does it take to find one album? Does an incremental update create duplicates? Can common tasks be completed without a phone? Does HDMI audio recover after the TV sleeps?

Those results explain a price premium. A DAC model number does not.

## What our WiiM Pro Plus evidence actually shows

SoundPath Lab tested one WiiM Pro Plus on September 7, 2026\. The unit ran firmware 4.8.827634; the controller was WiiM Home 3.6.7.26090120\. This was a scoped functional test, not a laboratory measurement or long-term reliability study.

In that environment, Wi-Fi onboarding took about 55 seconds. The offered firmware update and reboot then took 7 minutes 49 seconds. Those two recorded stages total 8 minutes 44 seconds, which is still not a complete unboxing-to-first-music time.

Variable RCA output, mute and basic optical/coaxial output worked in the reported session. Closing and reopening the app retained the queue, volume and output mode. Queue recovery after device power loss was inconsistent across runs. A combined router restart and Wi-Fi interruption ended with an empty queue, but those two variables were not isolated, so it is not evidence that a router restart alone causes queue loss.

The AirPlay submission included a tester-reported first-sound time of about 120 seconds and pause/resume and track-change success of one in three attempts. The failed attempts were not tied to exact app/output combinations, and the recording did not independently prove acoustic first-sound time. This is a retest lead, not a model-wide failure rate.

A fixed-output comparison also remained responsive to the Pro Plus volume control, but the evidence does not prove that Fixed Volume Output was enabled. We classify fixed output as unvalidated, not defective.

These labels are conditional. They will change only when price, delivered features, verified fixes or repeatable test evidence changes.

## How the evidence list works

We do not publish a numerical score for these products. Each product is shown through six fields: who it suits, positive evidence, limitation or negative evidence, unknowns, evidence status and a link to the full product dossier.

Compatibility comes first. A product missing a required output or protocol is marked “not applicable” for that scenario. A promised OTA feature is not counted as delivered. A product with missing recovery or output tests remains “awaiting evidence,” even when its specification sheet is complete.

Digital and analogue paths are evaluated separately. Third-party measurements retain their original tester, level, load, bandwidth, firmware and method. An official specification proves what the manufacturer claims; it does not by itself prove stability, sound quality or long-term reliability.

## What changes a recommendation

A coupon does not automatically move a product. A promised feature does not count until it ships. A firmware changelog moves an issue to “fix released, awaiting verification,” not “resolved.” A single complaint enters the case queue but does not create a failure rate. A confirmed serious volume or safety risk can pause a scenario recommendation immediately.

Each published snapshot will record the method version, market, price date, firmware, app version, test batches, evidence IDs and reason for change. The page will explain who moved, why, and whether the change came from price, compatibility, a delivered feature or a verified fix.
