# AudioLineOut Studio Six Headphone Amplifier Recalled for Electrocution Risk

AudioLineOut has recalled its Studio Six headphone amplifier, model ST6, because bare metal on some aftermarket metal-base vacuum tubes can become electrified while the amplifier is operating. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says contact can cause serious injury or death from electrocution.

Owners should stop using the recalled amplifier and contact AudioLineOut for a free repair. The CPSC also states that owners may use the vacuum tubes originally supplied with the amplifier, but the permanent remedy is the manufacturer repair.

## What can go wrong

The recall concerns a high-voltage electrical path that can energize the exposed metal base of an aftermarket vacuum tube. The confirmed trigger is narrow but serious: an ST6 is fitted with an aftermarket tube with exposed metal at its base, the amplifier is powered, and a person touches that bare metal.

Under those conditions, the CPSC says the user can receive a potentially fatal electric shock. No incident or injury had been reported when the recall was published, but absence of a reported injury does not reduce the consequence of the confirmed hazard.

## What owners should do

1. Stop using the Studio Six and disconnect it from power.
2. Do not touch an aftermarket tube's exposed metal base while the amplifier is powered.
3. Contact AudioLineOut and request the free repair and prepaid return label.
4. Follow the manufacturer's packing and return instructions.
5. The CPSC says the originally supplied tubes may be used instead of aftermarket metal-base tubes, but this should not replace completion of the recall repair.
